Missouri Civics Achievement Exam

The Missouri Civics Achievement Exam is state-mandated.

First-time freshmen complete the exam as part of 34-102 Introduction to American Government and Politics. Students can take the exam as many times as needed until they reach 70% (35/50).  Students who pass the course (34-102) but not the exam will still be required to complete the exam as it is a requirement for graduation.  Such students will take the exam through the Assessment Office, oaia@yamamoto-j.com.

Any student who transfers to Northwest from a non-Missouri institution or starts at a Missouri institution after July 2019 is required to complete the exam as a graduation requirement.  Such students will take the exam through the Assessment Office, oaia@yamamoto-j.com.

The exam has 50 multiple choice questions, but there is a review module for students who might struggle. The exam is not timed nor is it proctored.  Students only need to achieve a 70% (35 out of 50 points) to pass the exam and meet the state’s requirement.  It can be retaken as many times as necessary.
